Upgrading the Board Soon!

After literally giving months of thought, i've decided to upgrade the ikonboard from 2.19 to 3.11. �An upgrade will present easier to use features, new features, and more (which I still have to look into). �However, before I started with the upgrades, I wanted member feedback. �After all, you guys are what keeps this board alive.

In addition to simply upgrading the boards, I was perhaps wonder if TIB itself could use a slight make over. �By that I mean changing around the color scheme a bit, new graphics, changing of forums, updated FAQs/guidelines, anything else you can think of.

However there are a few things that won't make it to the new boards. �Polls if I can help it, images in your signature files, all avatars will still be 64x64 with a size limit around 30k, and that's about it.

I'll try to use everyone's suggestions and start the board upgrading process sometime near the end of July. �Thanks in advance for all of your help.

Awesome Idea Silver! Make it have really snazzy colors! I'm bored of gray, gray, gray! And get new forums! That'd be cool, having new things to chat under!

i dunno silver, i like the board's layout and the colors you used on this board already...

maybe the layout of the forums could change a little...

but  i do look foreward to whatever you pick, given that your taste for graphic design is very good ;)

You're changing the boards?That would be cool.I leave the graphics to you.You are always good at that.

Polls would be great.Though you'd have to come up with things to vote for constantly.

Hrm, I think you have a good idea ^^ Maybe even get a board other than Ikon board itself, such as EZ board or yabb. *shrugs* Some new colors would be nice though.

Nah, if I were to change boards, everyone would have to register again, i'm just going with Ikonboard 3.11.

I'm all for change, just no brilliant colors please - they're harsh on the eyes. Being the Grand Imperial Sovereign, I leave the final design choosings to you, Silver (I'm not picky). Everything that you described sounds good to me, I agree with keeping images out of signature files. I know of a few boards where these become like photo albums... Irritating is an understatement there.

Aww.. I wish you'd consider changing the avatar size to 100x100.  I'm itchin' to use a new AV that a friend made for me.  <=)

Suggestions... err.. how about a button that, if clicked, would make food (of your THOUGHT) suddenly appear in front of you!?  .. no?  aww...

Let me know if there is any way to help (graphics) wise, like an "animated" banner or something. ^=^V

It all sounds great to me, Silver.  Maybe you should make the main color a light, silvery blue so it would be nice and Balto-ey( I actually had the walls in my room painted this color because of my "Balto" obsession).  Simply a suggestion, though, and I'm sure whatever you come up with will be awesome.

Hmm, I dunno about changing the avatar size, I do want to keep the board running quickly.  I'll give it some thought though.  Ohh, sounds like a nice deal, I'll be sure to let you know. ;)

Hmm, I don't think i'm going to change the colors too much.  I think I'm going to have them mirror The Ice Cave.  But the silvery color might be a strong possiblity.

As for polls, they're hardly ever used constructively, or else they're abused.  I just think that's one feature we're better off without.

i agree to that, the way i see it.  People will make a pool about e verything and anything and some pools that most wont care about and thus leave nothing but a cluttered mess ub the topics. and anyway it seems unessecary to me

The polls are ridiculous, I see them on some other forums and they can quickly become not only annoying, but sometimes offensive (I guess the anonymity of the votes can allow some to show their harsher side?). As for avatar size, would the board speed be based on a person's internet connection or on the server? If it's based on the user's internet, maybe it'd be an idea to see what percentage of users have higher speed 'net connections?

That's good thinking, Ravid... Of now that I've long upgraded to faster connection speeds my inconsideration for 56k'rs shows through. I'll probably be punished with 14.4 for that.

Good points.  Unforunately the avatars would have to be 100x100 pixels, nothing less (unless you want it stretched) because that's how the coding works.

That's actually a very good idea, and it means that I can keep all of avatars that everyone donated.  Thanks for awesome suggestion Maverick. ^_^

And I think the colors are fine, aswell.

Polls are not lame, they're cool. My other boards have them. I like them.

Either way, i've made my decision final on the polls. =p  

Polls are boring, it is much interesting to ask the question you woul with a poll but let people type their opinions.

hmmm..... well, lets see, i'd like to see a different color than gray. i dunno, add a bit more spazz and excitement to the boards. i think the colors are just a little too dull. how about some more avatars? bigger avs! edit one more time: i think some new graphics could work out, too.

I am going with the bigger avatars (100x100), but I've decided to keep the grayish colors. �It'll probably look more like The Ice Cave when i'm done though. �After all, as CW suggested to me once, I would have to change the colors there too.
