I looked for an old thread that might have covered this topic so I would not have to start a new one but I didn't find one. Anyway I want to upload my own avatar, but I don't know which sites allow remote linking. And rather than going by trial and error I thought I would just ask all of you knowledgable people. :;):

I suggest HPPhoto, but they can be a pain sometimes (IE I haven't been able to upload a pic for a while, but all my old ones work perfect)... They don't limit the bandwidth like villagephotos does, in fact, village only allows 5 megs a day, which if you consider the traffic this board gets, it won't last too long unless you have a really small av ;)

If you go with HP, one thing you have to do is click on "generate pic for auction" and make sure you use the URL that gives you, or nobody else will see it � :laugh:

Thanks a lot. I still have one problem though. The link Hpphotos gives me is to long to fit in the box for the file name. Any suggestions?

Is it solong you can't see it, or so long it won't let you enter it all? If you just can't see it, don't worry ^^

HPPhotos worked fine for me.So as long as the dimensions are correct.

Wierd Kay. HPPhotos did not work for my avatar. It only works for my art.

As for the link being too long Echo, I don't know. I had never expeirienced that problem before.

I'll try villagephotos and see if that gives me a good (short)url.

No good. Village only lets you upload photos 120kb or under.My photo is over 500kb. The upgraded program doesn't have limits but there is no way I'm going to pay just to have a different avatar. Oh well.

Oh, that's the problem Echo, the name isn't to long, the file is too big... They can only be about 30-35k to show up on the Icy Boards ^^

It also has to be 100 x 100 or smaller, so just resize/reencode the image so it's only 30-35K and HP will work fine :;):

Which most probably mean you'll have to degrade the picture quality.

Me too about the 100 by 100 pixels thing. HP still didn't work, only Village. But this is what you should do Echo, make your image 100 by 100 BEFORE uploading it to Villagephotos. It will let you upload it at that size. It worked for me, and the link is not too long in Villagephotos.

I still have have one more problem (which I don't think I can get around). I have my pic as the lowest quality, smallest file I can make it and I still go over the 5 MB limit at village only half way through the day. Oh well, I'll just live with it.
