Hi! On some sites like this i've been to, you can upload banners or pictures of your character under your signature. Can we do that here or not? Just wondering because i'm new...:)
Banners?
Can we have banners under our signatures

Not currently, but the mods and admins are discussing this and plan on allowing it soon. Mostly because I like them as well. ^_^
As far as I know, we plan on making the maximun size about 400x50 @ 16K for still images, 30K if you really need it for an animated one. I'm also pretty sure we will set it so you need 100 (good) posts before you're allowed to have a signature image.

100? Wow! Okay, fine with me! Thanks!
No prob! Hey, you're already over 1/4 the way there, so 100 isn't bad at all. ^_^
That's a lot of posts, 27.. But, most of the people already succeeded to the goal...

Still working the fine details out. But yeah, it'll come before I return to school. But not now, convention tomorrow. ^_^;
You're already at 84... Keep it up, Roxi...
Thanks! And make that 89!
Actually make that 100! Yay, i did it!
Please use the edit button to add to a post instead of double posting. This is all in the FAQ and Guidlines
Oh...sorry Its just that most of the Boards/Forums sites i joined you can double post and that's what i'm used to so...sorry.:(
It's good to moderate the size of the images. I've seen some forums where a person posted a HUGE like 400x1000 banner that was animated about over 700kb in size. UGH! Imagine loading an entire page of those.
Banners might be a good idea, and a fun way for us artists to advertise our websites.

I personally have to say that I really like the way we don't have banners here. They are messy and annoying and you really don't need to see the same image under every post a person makes. I won't be adding one to my name
Yeah that may be true Fluke, but banner don't always have to be on your websites...thats like advertising all the time. I was thinking just to show off your artwork or maybe a pic of your character...nothing serious.
you miss understand, I was saying you don't need to see the same IMAGE over and over again under every post by the same person. That means whatever the banner is for.. it will be the same image.
Oh okay.
However, if I could have a small banner/button on my INFO page advertising my website than they would be cool. I'm redoing my site so I need to make a new one anyway.
People already advertise their websites/art galleries/live journals in their signature, without an image. You really don't need a banner to do so. Sometimes a link is more than enough for the curious person.
And Roxi, this why you READ the FAQ and Guidelines. We are not like those other forums. In fact lots of forums have their own rules. It all depends on the taste of those running the forums, with a bit of input from other members.

I guess your right. I'm sorry.
I'm new here, so I feel perhaps I should keep my trap shut. But FWIW I'd prefer that images be kept to the avatars and moderate use of linked images for specific purposes.
It seems nearly every other board I've visited allows free rein, hence every single post is accompanied by some annoying, gigantic image - the same image - and it slows down the loading time to the point that I just give up and don't bother coming back.
Of course I'm on a small island halfway to Antarctica and don't have broadband, but even if I could download a MB of images in a second, I'd still be more interested in what people had to say than in having their words dwarfed by endless repetitions of the same picture.
Now I know what you're contemplating isn't that extreme, but I'd still rather just stick to the smallish, elegant avatars, and allowing the odd, unique, in-post image which was specifically relevant to that post.
Thanks

Well, that's also another thing to consider. We want to keep the size of the images small, because slow loading forums suck. But considering some of the trouble we're having with simple rules (like pointless topics), I'd hate to have to enforce banner size. Maybe this is an issue were a vote would be needed.
But if you have banners at all, you're either going to have to enforce banner size (which I thought was the proposal), or allow free rein. I think if you go for the latter option, you'll start seeing titanic and pointless images with a few lines of text between them, making the threads annoying to wade through even if you don't have a download speed problem.
No offence to Roxi, but if I had a vote it would be for keeping things as they are.

Enforcing banner size was the proposal. But if a larger and larger amount of people disagree (with having banners at all), the matter should possibly be voted on. The only bit of doubt is knowing that it's an issue that would have to be constantly moderated. Like everything else. And unmoderated banner sizes is something that's not going to happen. Not ever.
Engh....I never liked the banners thing, but it's not up to me, so whatever the mods decide is good enough for me.
Considering the way the vote is going, they may not be allowed at all. ^^;
Yeah, it really dosen't matter to me that much i was just wondering.Well thanks anyways!
