Do you mean what kind of bass or electric? Or do you mean you can't decide between bass or electric? Well what I recommend you get is and electric. You should get a Fender. Those rock!!!!!!!!

Depends on 2 things, are you serious or likely to give up?
If your serious save money and get a decent instrument or you will outgrow one very quickly
If your not serious, get the cheapest one you can find so you don't loose too much when you chuck it in the back of your closet
