Spirit: stallion of the cimarron

Like the 2d, but the 3d? no!

The movie Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron has beautifully drawn 2D horses. What gets me, though, is the 3D mixed in. It's way too obvious for my taste: for example, in one scene there is a hand-drawn, 2D boot with a 3D spur. The spur has no black outline, realistic shading and rust spots, and just sticks out like a sore thumb. The scene where he an his 'girlfriend' (Rain) are swimming looks so plastic I often refer to that as the 'rubber bathtoy scene.'

Anybody else notice this???

Maybe I'm just nit-picky about it because as a true horse-person (as most of my friends who work around horses in real life) the movie just really gets on our nerves because they can't get a single thing right about horses. Dunno. (?)
I didn't really care for this movie.  The only things I enjoyed were the soundtrack and some parts of the animation.  But you are right about the 3d and 2d mix, sometimes it looked very out of place.
Well, I kinda liked this movie, and I also own the soundtrack, which I am also happy with.  This is the only movie I've seen with this type of 3D/2D hybrid animation, and sometimes, it does seem a bit blatant, like when the horses were running in the beginning.  From the comments on other sites, it's one of the most controversial animated movies out there, since the horses don't talk, and everything is based on emotions.  The animation just threw in something else to debate about.  It's a love-it-or-hate it movie, IMO.
I liked this movie, actually. The 2-D and 3-D effects were wel used, and put in neatly. Though, the storyline is a bit unoriginal, I still liked it. The animation was great, but yeah, there were those parts that really crawled under your skin. Just the basic facts on horses. His herd would've been taken over by the time he returned, I'm sure they would've shackled his feet when branding him, yadda yadda yadda...
But I must say I do like the soundtrack.
I thought the Movie was O. K. I might Buy it someday I also have The Soundtrack

I have to agree with you on that, love it or hate it.  All reviews I've seen are either strongly for or strongly against.
I loved it, I see nothing wrong with it. Just my opinion. and I have the movie. =3
I really enjoyed spirit, but the 3D mixed in DID annoy me! It's the only thinga bout themovie I disliked. I hated how the horses that were CGed had black eyes and just repeated their actions in some scenes. Too loop animation for me.
I know what you mean about it being 'looped'! :O It was weird! And that's actually called being 'hobbled', (instead if shackled), but hey, it works for me. :) And I really did like the movie for the story, and the music was great (except for Bryan Adams singing it) but some parts to me just looked like a Nintendo game with bad graphics. Ever noticed the severely-looped soldiers in the background?
