Heyo!
Since there are already a few dog topics, I just thought I'd post this one.
It is reguarding my dog, Hope. I adopted her from the shelter just last year, and ever since I've been wondering what breeds she is. The shelter stated 'German Shepherd mix', but I just wanna know what she really is. So far, I'd thought of possibilities of:
German Shepherd, Jack Russell Terrier, Smooth Collie, Pit Bull, Dalmatian, Pointer, Australian Cattle Dog, or even Greyhound.
So...anyone have any suggestions? Lemme know if you need more pictures. And just in case, she's almost two years old. I'm wondering if her ears will stay puppy-like forever. =P

Thanks! ^_^

Definately has a terrier look to her, but she could have so many different breeds in her it is hard to say exactly what.

Ah, Hope! Been a while since I've seen her. XP *pets* I'd say German Shepherd and Jack Russel for sure, but maybe a little tiny bit of Smooth collie...? Well... that may be a biased guess, 'cause Smooth Collies are one of my favorite breeds. lol
Or maybe some Smooth-Coated Fox Terrier?

Most definetely a terrier look. And I can also tell it is an Austailian Shepard because of the pointed tips on her ears. So i guess she is a terrier and a Shepard mix. But greyhound, I'm not sure she is a mix with greyhound.

Thanks, guys. =)
My first guess was German Shepherd and Jack Russell Terrier, and now I think she must be part terrier, or part of a smaller dog. It's because some dogs have big builds or smalls builds (I hope I don't confuse anyone....XP Like the thickness of their legs, y'know?) and she has a skinnier type build/leg. But, eh, I dunno. *shrugs*

I was browsing through PetHarbor.com, where they have all the dogs/cats in shelters listed. I was looking at my local shelter's "Found" dogs, and I found this one. It's a Pit Bull, and from what I see it looks quite a bit like Hope. Similar ears, structure, coloring, stuff like that. What do you guys think? I think she could be part pit bull.

You don't like pit bullls? Lol. Well, that picture doesn't look like a purebred pit bull. Dunno. I got some new pictures of Hope. ^^

pitbulls are nasty!!
70-110747806814 Mar 2005, 22:21 UTC
I think pit bulls are awesome!! But that's my opinion and I respect yours, muk&lukLOVER.

Let me tell you guys something. Pit bulls are friendly dogs unless you train them wrong. My friend's sister has a pit bull mix with labrador and she is so friendly. You just have to train them like a pro. But, like F_P said, I respect your opioion on them.
78-110711749715 Mar 2005, 00:58 UTC
Looks very much like a terrier to me, but with a LOT mixed in. Lab, maybe? Anyway, she's a very pretty dog. I luv mutts!
65-108501507215 Mar 2005, 04:51 UTC
I agree Dayami. It's all how you raise, train, and treat them.
Nasheh- Lab? I thougth that once, but now I don't think so. But she does love to swim and 'retrieve'...^^
78-110711749722 Mar 2005, 00:39 UTC
Well, I dunno. You're probably right. Our dogs are so mixed-up we can barely tell. We have one that looks like a lab, boxer, and Rhodesian ridgeback all rolled into one and another that we know for sure is part beagle, part terrier.
I agree about the pit bulls. Now, I've had a person in my family attacked by a pit bull, but it wasn't kept right, and was(I think) also kept chained (but escaped), which is actually part of agitated training used in police dogs- it makes them aggressive.
I know people who have had pit bulls and love them- the only things they ever killed were a couple of cats, and were even good with children. Of course, I still don't think I could bring myself to set a child down next to a pitbull (or any large dog for that matter- they might hurt them, even if it's just an accident, and I don't want to be held responsible or have the parents think I was putting their child in potential danger).
I also know a lady who has a half pit bull, half German Shepherd that is the sweetest dog I've ever met, next to mine. It's all in the training and treatment. There's no reason a pit bull can't be a good dog.
65-108501507222 Mar 2005, 05:18 UTC
Exactly. My friend has a big, tough looking pit bull named Rocky. He's a sweet thing, and is never treated badly.
The thing I find most annoying with people owning dogs, is when people either get a dog, leave it in the backyard/chain it up, and never do anything with it, or people get a puppy that have no time for it. And one thing I'm seeing lately and I'm getting really pissed about is people who can't seem to keep their dogs in their own yards. I was walking Hope last week and I see this big dog in a yard. I just shrug about it and keep walking. But then, I see it running across the street! Of course, it comes over to me and Hope, and freaks out both of us. Luckily, it just goes about sniffing trees and rocks. But, when I went past the house, I saw the dog broke the fence. The dog probably wouldn't have done that if the people had taken the time to make sure the dog couldn't escape (Plus, the dog was quite big, perhaps a Rottweiler mix). (I'm getting a little carried away...XP Sorry, I just find this so aggitating.)
Also, today when I was walking, someone opened their garage door, and out comes this terrier-looking dog. Of course, it runs over to us, barking and poking at Hope. I find this so aggitating! And this weren't the only times these things happened. I doubt they will be the last.
Another thing I would like to rant about is when people have dogs, specifically puppies, and don't take care of them. My neighbors have two young children and are quite busy. Now, they have a growing puppy who needs exercise, training, and attention. This is the same with my neighbors on the other side, and their puppy keeps getting out because their fence doesn't stay closed. It seems to be a "trend" now, get a puppy just because it's cute and then just neglect it.
78-110711749722 Mar 2005, 18:00 UTC
I know just what you mean. As a matter of fact, my mom was telling about this one time when she was little there was a family across the street who had a puppy they neglected and- get this- actually kept locked in a cabinet in the kitchen.
She and one of her best friends actually climbed in through the window one day (back then there was very little chance of theft and people usually didn't lock doors or windows) ,took the puppy, and gave it away to a good home. I'm not one for stealing, but I have to say I think they did the right thing for the dog's sake. Well, actually, they probably should have reported animal abuse to the cops, but either way the dog needed OUT.
I don't really mind people not keeping their dogs secured that much, but I can see how it would tick some one off. In our town (we lived in town for a little while- I hated it) there's this one dog named Huck that is never kept in his yard, and eveybody knows him. One day at a highschool football practice he came running onto the feild and everybody started cheering, "Huck! Huck! Huck!" We even know several people who have beds for him in their garage or even houses. He goes by the dohnut shop every morning for dohnuts, too. Kind of like Tramp from 'Lady and the Tramp.' Lol, I love Huck!
But I do see why people need to keep them confined to their own yards, and if they were pestering my dogs I would get mad, too.
65-108501507231 Mar 2005, 21:21 UTC
Wow, a daring rescue! Fun! =) That's great that they could get the dog out of there. I don't see why people do these things, though. Why lock it up? Why just not get rid of it?
Wow, Huck sounds really awesome! There's a big Rottweiler in my neighborhood named Frankie, and he's so sweet. He's often out in the yard with his owners, and he stays in the yard, or if he wanders off, he comes back right as you call his name. Now only if I could get Hope to be that way...

The breed mix you might have is collie, terrier of a source and maybe a little bit of husky. That's what I think. The coat and be a terrier. Collie ears and the built of a husky. My dog has the built of a husky but sniffs like heck like a Beagle.
65-108501507204 Apr 2005, 19:36 UTC
Yeah, my vet suggested collie. She does look very much like a Smooth Collie. I don't think husky - she doesn't look anything like it. She's actually very lightly built. But, now I'm sure she's part Jack Russell Terrier. I saw one on Animal Cops, and it looked to much like her. Maybe she's an overgrown Jack Russell. XD
87-111007619506 Apr 2005, 22:26 UTC
don't know
87-110711785808 Apr 2005, 17:45 UTC
Ur dog really does have a Pitbull/Terrier look about her.
78-110711749708 Apr 2005, 22:55 UTC
Yeah, she does look like a like a Jack Russel. I knew people who used to breed them- they're so cute! But that broad, block-shaped head and square jaws make me think she's part pit bull, too.
As a matter of fact, I saw some people today with a small-medium dog that looked a LOT like your dog, Hope. They said she was a terrier/pit bull mix, but more terrier than bull.
Either way, Hope looks so cute in those pictures!
