Has been posted on my forum as well (by me i dont copy&paste stuff that are not mine)
Monkey Island Series
A flashback, we are in 1990-1998 the adventure game era for most gamers. After this timeline adventure games started a downfall, no one played this games anymore, the 3D era has begun.
LucasArts one of the best adventure game creator of all time(Full Throttle, Grim Fantango, Monkey island 1/2/3/4) had a lot of originality, not using the eternal Star Wars logo to make money but their own ideas.
The first game from the series I played was Monkey Island 3(The Curse of Monkey Island), so I cant give feedback for the first 2 because I didnt play them.
The main characters of these adventures are Guybrush Treepwood (silly looking, not your average day pirate), Elaine Marley (his love) and the eternal zombie\demonic pirate Le Chuck (the bad guy) .
Of course there are more characters (Worth naming: Wally, the cute little pirate Stan, businessman Voodoo Lady etc. ) making a indomitable Monkey Island feeling.
For example:
Guybrush: Please dont kill me!
Le Chuck: Why shouldnt I?
Option 1
Guybrush: If you kill me you will crush the hopes of millions of kids around the world, Im a hero to millions!
Le Chuck: It doesnt matter, all that matters is if I am with Elaine and you are out of the picture for good!
Option 2
Guybrush: There wont be any Monkey Island sequels, no sequels means no job for you!
Le Chuck: They cant do this to me! Im Le Chuck!
Guybrush: Have you ever heard of Justin Threadbare?
Le Chuck: No.
Guybrush: Exactly!
.. (Etc. )
The graphics are not the thing that a guy whos first game was Unreal Tournament, they are a 2D graphics, artistically designed but still 2D (Only the 4-th game had 3D graphics).
The sounds in MI2 where all interpreted by actors, the second CD being filled with the sounds and the melodies are giving a pirate feeling.
Monkey Island 4 (Escape from Monkey Island) had the same feeling, with the quotes about movies (have to play to understand) and about the other MI games, having fun while playing.
Even if some puzzles are very hard (MI4-the perfume trick) most are logical even if there are situations in which you can get stuck without reason
The series is a very good one and MI1&2 are abandonware on the net, so if you havent played any of the MI games here is a site where you can get to try them (demo versions) http://www.worldofmi.com.
Its a fantastic series which can be a great, relaxing game after a multiplayer of C.O.D.U.O. or C.S.
P.S. LucasArts promised us that MI will not stop at 4 so please start and make the 5-th (5 years from then) MI, so LucasArts stop making Star Wars games (too many in my opinion) and put back your MI where it belongs!
