I don't remember if this has been asked before, but what are the extra features of the WQ R2 DVD? I've heard of what the features are for the "Balto" region 2 disc, but not "Balto II: Wolf Quest"...
On a side note, I want to elaborate on a subject I brought up in the Whatever forum: the German "Balto" DVD's aspect ratio. I looked on the German Ebay site for the "Balto" DVD, where I found its format: it's widescreen, as I had hoped: "Balto: Ein Hund mit dem Herzen eines Helden" (click)
I was unsure where to put this topic, since one half pertains to "Balto", and the other "Wolf Quest"

OOh it is widescreen, I might get it.
I have said WQ DVD and it has a game that doesn't work. That's it, pretty pathetic really..

I have a somewhat similar question. You know the DVD extras (Balto and Balto II) for use in a computer DVD ROM drive? Is there a trick to getting them to work or are they non-functional?

As far as I know, there is no special trick to access the features on the American "Balto" DVD. And, based on what AC said, there are apparently no extra features on the "Wolf Quest" disc except for the "Rescue Aleu Game", which works on my DVD player.
As for the German "Balto" disc, I have special plans to put material from it on my website. I won't elaborate, though, to keep it as a surprise, for anyone who visits my site in the coming months

Do you just click on the "DVD ROM Features" button? When I click it it just tells me what I could be doing. Do you have to be on the internet or something. I am really confused.

The special features on the Region 1 DVD don't work, period. If anyone has actually managed to unlock Universal's sloppy mistake, then they have yet to speak. ^^; As for the WQ DVD, the game is barely worth it, and I'm shocked that doesn't even work.
But at least the Balto documentary works for you. As to why, Germany gets a Widescreen option, I don't know. Once again, I feel ripped off. ^_^;

I would had bought WQ if there was some more extras, and it would had been great with behind the scenes, cut scenes and so on.

The Game on the Region 2 DVD only works with the InterActual Player which you can find on the DVD. I test it, and it works!

Yeah, the documentary will work, but it will be in German. I'll have to just watch the screen to guess what's being said. Oh well, when I learn German in about twenty years, I'll write up a transcript of the documentary, translated into English, and post it here
.
BTW Silver, I thought you said once it didn't matter to you whether a film was widescreen or fullscreen? But I agree that we Americans have been double crossed. Universal should get its rear in gear and release a widescreen, fully restored version, with lots of ACCESSIBLE special features. You know, I actually wonder if the current 'extra features' are really on the disc at all...
There are some other countries in Europe which have the widescreen movie, too, so I don't understand why the UK doesn't. For instance, look at this link: http://www.dvd-basen.dk/uk....5&ok=go
If you scroll down the pages of each of these reviews(except the ones that are for "Wolf Quest)you will come across the aspect ratio 1:77:1, or something similar, which is definitely widescreen. Even though you can't read the languages in these reviews, the aspect ratio is still unmistakably there.
Ah, "Balto" in widescreen: I want that German disc(far as I know, my brother hasn't sent it off to the States yet
) . Fortunately, the DVD has the film in German, French AND English, so I'll be able to see it the way I've always seen it, except it'll be widescreen. Woohoo! Too bad I don't know how to make video clips...116-106196084614 Jan 2004, 22:31 UTC
The version I have is the Brazillian one, which is still region 1... If you get that, all the special features work, and you need not get a multi-region player. Plus, it is widescreen.

Is that so LW27? Wide Screen?! Working special features?!?! And IT IS STILL REGION 1?!?!?! (note the growing level of excitement) I believe it is time I get me a Brazillian Wersion of Balto. GO Brazil!!

TLW; I decided to obtain the German version for several reasons:
A. My brother is there currently, so having him buy the disc and send it here is convenient.
B. It would be difficult for me to get the Brazilian version since I don't have my own credit card to use on Ebay or anywhere else.
C. The german language pertains to part of my heritage, so it would be awesome to have a German-language "Balto" DVD. Also, not being able to understand the documentary would give me an incentive to learn German
.
D. I can easily switch the regions on my DVD-ROM, and I also performed a remote control hack on my DVD player to make it multi-region(i.e I pressed a certain combination of buttons on the player's remote, as opposed to opening up the player and messing with it). My player has suffered no side effects from it, and I'll have to wait until I get the disc to see if it worked.

I know that since the DVD is PAL, there might be issues with it playing on our television. I'm not sure what the issues are, but even if it won't play on the TV, I could always just watch it on my laptop, which plays DVDs in high-definition. 116-106196084615 Jan 2004, 20:10 UTC
Err, I wasn't critical of your choice to get the German version, Aniu... I was just mentioning it to anybody who lacked the special features themselves, didn't have a multi-region player, and want it all in english to boot. ^^``
The only weird/cool anyway thing is that the cover and disk is in... what, Portuguese or Spanish?
65-106196054215 Jan 2004, 22:00 UTC
Oh, no, I wasn't trying to offend you, I apologize if I did. I know you weren't being critical, I just talk too much

The game only works on DVD-rom .. Works for me.. but its a really sucky game and not even worth playing..69-106279399520 Jan 2004, 02:35 UTC
And now I have a question for you Lone (or anyone who can answer it). Where might I find a Brazillian version of Balto? Inquiring minds would like to know.... which would be me.
116-106196084620 Jan 2004, 03:03 UTC
While they aren't always in stock, you can go here or try Ebay. I got mine from DVD From Brazil through an Ebay auction.
Also, if you go to their store, don't just peek into "Animation", they usually put it in "Children, Family". 69-106279399526 Jan 2004, 20:04 UTC
Weeee!! I just ordered Balto from DVDfromBrazil.com. Thanks for the tip TLW 27.

Welcome! BTW, don't be too impatient, they are a bit tardy in their delivery.
65-106196054227 Jan 2004, 07:13 UTC
Congrats, Echo, now you'll be able to see the movie the way it's meant to be seen, and the documentary! You're going to love it

You have no idea how happy I am. I wanted so bad to see the special shtuff, and now I finally get to. Soon my life will be complete. (Yeah right)
83-106196071628 Jan 2004, 23:58 UTC
Actually, I just brought the DVD from the link provided 27. I'm glad that it's finally in stock, and decided not to wait again. Hopefully buying needed school books tomorrow won't kill me. ^^;

Yay! I got my Balto DVD from Brazil 2 days ago and watched half of the documentary (it is pretty long ya know). So far it is very interesting. And I love the widescreeniness (and yes, I made that word up, basically 'cause I'm so very happy)
