I was at the Balto source site and I was looking at the old information and there was a gold Kodi on one of the WoC covers? What is this all about? Was gold Kodi an old production drawing? Were they testing out his colors?

Yes, this was the first cover found for the italian version; Kodi was yellow on that one. Then Universal probably realized the error and corrected that with a new version, the current one, which has different colors.
But it was definitley released with the good cover in Italy.
