Several days ago, I decided to have a little fun with a screengrab of Aniu. I opened the file in Paint, and did some editing, and upon doing so, I made an interesting discovery.
Click here to see what I came up with:
http://photos.yahoo.com/bc....Copy
and paste the link if it won't work.
As you can see in this pic, I gave Aniu a makeover, complete with the essential black ear tips. However, I did not color her irises, which appear to be gold, if I'm not colorblind. I wish Aniu's animators had colored her this way...

Yup...what they said heh

All i see is a bath tub .. oh it says file unaccessable
83-106196071602 Jul 2003, 04:00 UTC
You should check the upload, the premissions of the folder. I can't seem to access it either.
65-106196054202 Jul 2003, 08:40 UTC
I just read in my photo album that public sharing of images is only available for Premium Service users. I am not using Premium Service, since I have no income.
Is there a way for me to put the picture right on my post?
77-106196065602 Jul 2003, 08:48 UTC
Are you refering to where it says "* Public sharing of files/full-size images only available for Premium Service users. "? That's for files and full-size images only. People can still see the image just not full size. When I clicked you photos album it said,"This album is currently empty."
65-106196054202 Jul 2003, 10:47 UTC
See if this works:
http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/istaswhitewolf/vwp?.dir=Baltopics&.src=ph&.dnm=Aniu.jpg&view=t&.done=http%3a//photos.yahoo.com/bc/istaswhitewolf/lst%3f%26.dir=/Baltopics%26.src=ph%26.view=t
*EDIT*
Oops, that doesn't work either. I don't know why it doesn't, since the file isn't full size...

Did you do what Silver said and check the permissions?
After you go into the folder it should look like this in the upper right corner.
http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/maverick5713/vwp?.dir=/My+Photos&.src=ph&.dnm=per.jpg&.view=t&.done=http%3a//photos.yahoo.com/bc/maverick5713/lst%3f%26.dir=/My%2bPhotos%26.src=ph%26.view=t

Hey,your link right here the
http://photos.yahoo.com/bc.....view=t its still saying file inaccessable...I dunno maybe its just my comp
65-106196054202 Jul 2003, 21:54 UTC
Direct links to the photo don't seem to be working, so just try this:
http://photos.yahoo.com/istaswhitewolf
When you are there, click on "Baltopics" and you should see the thumbnail(it is the only one there)labeled "Aniu". Click on it, and the image should appear, in less than full size.

Nice makeover! I can see her! She's beautiful! I like her with golden eyes and they are black around the irises! Tight!

I like her better the way she is in the movie though! The black kinda scares me, ya know, it makes her look evil.
65-106196054203 Jul 2003, 01:39 UTC
LOL, I colored black around her eyes because the "White Wolf" of the original, whom I believe is Aniu, has black around her eyes.
I didn't paint her irises gold, they were already that color. I just wanted to point out that her eyes are NOT red like Balto's.
106-106196082203 Jul 2003, 03:42 UTC
hmmmmmm, I didn't know that. Guess I just wasn't paying close attention to Aniue's eye color. Balto's eyes are dark orange not red!!!!
73-106196061403 Jul 2003, 04:55 UTC
Nice,Thats cool I like that.Nice makeover though. But,I just got home I`ve finally had time to go hang out.Well im going to go to bed here shortly....Night everyone
(Although it will probably be morning or afternoon b4 you see this) Night everyone
65-106196054203 Jul 2003, 05:35 UTC
Actually, Balto's eyes are BROWN in the first movie, but for whatever reason the animators of "Balto II" didn't get the color right. In B2, Balto's eyes appear red on my TV...
83-106196071603 Jul 2003, 13:21 UTC
Now she looks a bit more the like White Wolf! Just give her a nice big mane, and you're in business. ;)
70-106196059203 Jul 2003, 14:44 UTC
Now if they had done her like that in the first place, I wouldn't argue so much over whether that is the same wolf or not...which she isn't...
65-106196054204 Jul 2003, 00:54 UTC
Silver Huskey< I would have given her a mane, but I didn't really know how to alter the 'fur lines' that the animators had already drawn in.
Fluke< I don't mean to be a stickler, but shouldn't my editing prove that she IS the white wolf, but that the animators just messed up bigtime?
70-106196059204 Jul 2003, 10:19 UTC
no, not at all :P it's kinda like putting on a white jump suit, big sun glasses and a silly wig before singing Elvis songs.. doesn't make you Elvis.
116-106196084604 Jul 2003, 13:42 UTC
... I think the thing that makes them different characters is the way that in WQ, Aniu was a spirit... the white wolf in Balto was not a spirit. Perhaps Universal did want them to be the same, but, they aren't.
67-106196056004 Jul 2003, 14:46 UTC
Hey Lonewolf....
Your art is not pityfull.. I think it looks great.. Except the eyes, you need to work on those.. Otherwise.. Cool art.. ;)

LOL that came outa the blue ^^
but thanks! *shrugs* ask any artist, they always are the harshest on themselves ;)
but, i'd suggest talking about this in either a different topic, or privately via e-mail or IMing, since it has nothing to do with the current topic =)

Hmm...I'm not really sure.I have a feeling the two are the same, though they look realllly different.I have a half-half opinion.
65-106196052910 Jul 2003, 06:48 UTC
I know they're supposed to be the same wolf, but I don't *want* them to be the same... and, as TLW27 pointed out, there's considerable evidence that they are not the same. The white wolf didn't speak, either; and Aniu seemed to be guarding Balto at all times, while the white wolf was just in that one scene though there were numerous other times Balto could've used a bit of ghostly protection. They're also different sizes.
They're supposed to be the same, but luckily the animators messed up too much so I can safely say that, in my mind, they are different. Having the white wolf be Balto's mother would *completely* destroy the mystery and awe of that scene.
65-106196054210 Jul 2003, 09:50 UTC
I just want to say something(no flames are intended in this post). Aniu is MUCH bigger than Balto. At that last scene, when she howls goodbye to him, you can tell she's larger: Balto is standing up in this scene, and Aniu's head is higher than his, yet she is sitting down. Thus, if she were standing, she would be taller still.
Look at this, and study the bottom picture closely:
http://www.geocities.com/istaswh....49If
you look hard enough, you can see that Aniu's forelegs are longer than Balto's, which should mean she's taller. Also, her head, ears, and paws are all large in comparison to her son's, and like the white wolf of the original, she has a huge plume of a tail.
The only thing I'm trying to prove here is that Aniu and Balto are not the same size. As you can probably tell, I have spent way too much time staring at and studying various screengrabs from the Aniu & Balto scene.

You are right, but if she were to stand up, she wouldn't be as tall. If you think about wolf anatomy, when they stand from that sitting position, the head would actually naturally go down rather than up, so she would actually appear shorter
And wow, Balto's eyes are the right colour there!
65-106196054210 Jul 2003, 12:37 UTC
Is it the same way with dogs, then? Because in one scene in "Balto", Jenna rises from a sitting position, and her head ends up being higher when she's standing. It's at the part where Rosy attaches her to the sled and says, "Okay, just a minute, MUSH!"
I'm confused now. LOL
70-106196059210 Jul 2003, 13:03 UTC
well we are talking natural basics.. a wolf wouldnt have a distraction of a human to raise its head to. Of course they can raise their head like that, but naturally I think the head would go lower. Try it yourself, sit down and then stand up on all on you hands and knees.. you head will be lower. But I'm not basing this on Human anatomy.. but I do know wolf anatomy.
65-106196054210 Jul 2003, 13:20 UTC
That makes sense. I guess I learned something new today! Thanks for correcting me.
75-106196063012 Jul 2003, 06:14 UTC
Got to agree with AC there.I spend quite some time watching my dogs (I guess wolves and dogs have the same anatomy. After all, they descended from one single type of canine) and they do tend to look taller when sitting down.
83-106196074113 Jul 2003, 03:33 UTC
so are the wolves in WQ really wolves or just Balto clones that are supposed to be Wolves .. even Aniu looks too much like a white Balto clone..
65-106196054213 Jul 2003, 04:03 UTC
Actually, there were Balto clones in the original film too. Just look at the wolves who howl to Balto when he returns to his boat--they have the same markings as he does(light gray eye patches and "socks" on their feet), and similarly colored gray coats(except for the largest wolf, who looks black and grey).
Also remember that the animators of WQ were new at their job, so they messed up on a lot of things. You can't really blame them.

83-106196071613 Jul 2003, 06:02 UTC
Yeah, but they're supposed to be professionals. >_<
The sad part is you can find fanart more on character than in Wolf Quest.
83-106196074113 Jul 2003, 06:19 UTC
yeah, but the wolves in the first movie were closer to wolves than Balto clones. or maybe it's because they were too far away to really tell
and Aleu didn't look any more like a wolf Balto did. just more like a wolf than the other pups... *blames the animators for that* and it takes more than narrower eyes to be a wolf anyway.. I guess the White Wolf was the only real wolf In Balto or Wolf quest ..
*Ends Rant*
well one things for certain , the White Wolf did look/was based on real wolf .. you can't tell me that Aniu looked like a Wolf in the sequel.. she's more like a big white Balto clone

Unfortunately, that seems to be the way it is with most direct-to-videos. The characters don't look the way they should.
I'm sure the quality of WQ would have been better if they had spent more time on it. But the quality is good enough for me. I just hope that "Balto III" doesn't have even poorer animation...
65-106196052914 Jul 2003, 01:00 UTC
I think that there's a perfectly valid reason for the wolves in Balto to look like Balto: not only is Balto part wolf himself, but huskies in general are very wolf-like dogs, with the only major differences sometimes being eye color, a curled tail, and size. Wolves are lanky and narrow-chested, like Balto, have fluffy brush tails, like Balto... etc.
For Aniu to look like Balto, however, is another story. Balto from WQ looks completely different than he did in the original: his legs are too short, he has a big barrel chest, etc. Neither Balto nor the wolves should look like that.

106-106196082214 Jul 2003, 01:12 UTC
Ag, I think Balto looks like that in WQ cuz he's supposed to be older. All bodies change as they get older. Balto, er, "filled out" more in that movie. I don't think they look like Balto clones either, that's right what you said about the huskies and wolf thing. Also, I've always thought that Balto was more wolf than husky, personally. I know the real Balto only had like, what. 11% wolf in him? But it's different in the movie. The animators had to make him more wolfish to get a story going in the movie.
Catch my drift???
83-106196071614 Jul 2003, 01:15 UTC
I guess they should have hired someone educated in wolf anatomy as well. Either that or spent more time looking at live animals for reference. If they even did that at all. =/
Oh, and the real Balto was all husky.
106-106196082214 Jul 2003, 01:33 UTC
Is that true Silver? Well, I've read maney Balto books and some say he was all husky, and others say he was only like 11% wolf, etc.
BTW thank ye for my member title!
65-106196052914 Jul 2003, 01:34 UTC
jewelswulfe, Balto was only three months older in Wolf Quest than he was in the first movie. He was already a few years old by that point, so he wouldn't be doing much growing anymore. In fact, since Balto took place during the winter and Wolf Quest was more during the spring and summer, Balto (and all of the canines) should've looked
smaller, because they would've blown their winter coats.
Besides, no matter how much growing a wolf or a wolf-like dog does, their chest will never be anything but razor-thin. To paraphrase Lois Crisler: "Of all of the wolves I've known over the years, not one of them had enough space between their two front legs for me to insert four fingers of my hand without making them overlap." Wolves aren't just narrow-chested, they're narrow-chested. Balto and the wolves in Wolf Quest, on the other hand... you could drive a car through there.
106-106196082214 Jul 2003, 01:39 UTC
Hmm, your right. LOL about the drive a car through the wolves leg space thing!!!!!!!!!!!!
