Ok, this has been bugging me for a while. If Steele, the Trio etc. are all on the same sled team with the same musher, why do they all have different owners??
I'm talking about the scene where the dogs are about to race individually. Before they start, you can see one man standing behind each dog. How are the teams organized if all the dogs belong to different people?

It could be almost like horse racing: There's one person (or people) that own/ breed the dogs, one that trains them, and another that rides them . . . .
Or in this case, someone owns the dogs on their own, and they give someone else the right to race them on their team . . . I guess the best dogs will run in the team with the best musher . . . huh!?

That makes the most sense, I suppose. I don't think that's how they do it in reality, though. I think that the mushers own all their dogs in reality. But, in Nome at the time, there's no doubt that everyone in town knew each other rather well and trusted each other enough to mush with each other's dogs.

I've never thought of that.It makes sense what Aneiryu said.Other than that,I can't think of anything else

Well when they talk about the dog team, they do mean a team, as already said there will be one that owns/mushes them and there may be dog handlers too that help behind the scenes, something I used to do myself.
Also at that point in question, they are looking for the fastest dogs, not the fastest team so the final team would in theory be a mixed ownership team if all the dogs in Nome are being raced.

The best dogs are supposedly the ones that get picked for the teams. But I guess it would be kind of hard for someone to own and feed all the dogs by themselves.
Probably when a sled team needed to be put together they all pitched in. Or I guess that could be one possibility.
