What made you a balto fan?

How you became a balto fan

Well, my story was this, it happened a few years back, I was at a mall and found this CD called "Balto", it caught my attention, but at that time, I wasn't very keen on buying since i was'nt a fan, so years later, which is today a few months back, I was reading a newspaper, i turned to the page to that day's theme, it was about dogs. Balto was featured, its description of the movie was good, so remembering the CD, I bought it from a local store a few days later....thats when I became a fan.
I saw it in theaters, and that's when I liked it.  :D
I saw it on Sky 1 as it never got to the cinemas here.. I recorded it when it was repeated and have been obsessed ever since
For me it's just the fact I love animal animated films, and seeing Balto mentioned about, it caught my eye as something that might be good. Was slow to hit off with me, but now I love it!
I saw it last christmas for the first time...and not entirely. But it caught my attention, so I bought it a few months later on DVD. I loved it from this time, and I can't even count how many times I've seen it...Especially because I'm often watching it in pieces, I've got it on my hard drive now so it's easy  :)
I knew the real story and when I saw the movie I,like Acanis, became obsesed.  I became coocoo, gaga, crazy over Balto.  I watch the movie almost every day.  Go Balto!!!:)
My Mom took me to see it in the Theaters, I was only five at the time but i still became obsessed with it. I made my mom take me 3 times to see it in the theaters, and once it came out on VHS watched it every day. I'm not joking  I really did watch it every singel day before I went to bed, and I still watch it 4 to 6 times a week :)
I got it and just liked to draw it I guess. I love balto's animation!
Well, i don't want to go into details about my own reason for becoming a fan, but let's just say that it got me out of a bad situation i was in... (not a physical problem like a drug addiction or anything, more of a depression problem). I was stuck in my room for the day since my parents had cleaned the room beside me and i couldn't step on the carpet. So i watched a Memorial day marathon that was playing on Cartoon Network and, sure enough, Balto was on. After watching it, i felt like a completely new person and became a very large fan myself. Looking back on it now, i see that watching this movie and, in a sense the character himself, saved my life. Without watching this i would have never realized that i have potential as a writer or have met any of the good friends i have on this and other sites, especially my mate Verta *smiles with a blush*

And so, thank you Balto. I would've been lost without you ^_^.
*wags at Fluke* I met someone named Acanis in a Yahoo chat room about 4 1/2 years ago, and though I wasn't a Balto fan at the time...I might have seen it at some point then, but I'm not sure...I watched it when he mentioned how much he loved it, and I became a fan of the ORIGINAL Balto but I'm not exactly a sequel-fan. The first was a very nice story, and based enough on real events to be even more interesting. :) Plus Balto and the community have introduced me to a lot of pretty cool people, some of whom I've met in person.
Me? I used to watch it when I was little because my dad wanted to see it. I never really cared about what they said at first but when I grew older, I started to like it more. :)
I really didn't know anything about the real Balto, and I had never heard of the movie. While surfing around on the TV, looking for a show, I stumbled across Cartoon Network's Cartoon Theater. Being a sucker for animated movies, I stuck around to see what was on. After watching Balto for the first time, I was hooked. Over time, I read up on the real story, bought DVD's, and read some fanfics (And when I say some, I mean a couple hundred pages); and now I'm a diehard Balto fan. Balto actually started my on-line life. I never did anything on the internet before then.  ;)
Well...this is interesting. I would like to say it started when I first saw it a long time ago. However, I didn't even become a fan until late 2002, to be perfectly honest. And the strange thing is, it was because of WQ that I became a fan. I was watching Cartoon Network's Cartoon Theatre, and I saw WQ on. It was the first time I saw WQ and I was, for some reason, amazed by it. ??? Actually, to be honest, again, it was cuz of that, that i became so intersted in Animation. Anywoof...after seeing WQ (it was around christmas time) I decided to buy the origianl and WQ, cuz I vaguely remembered that I enjoyed the first when I saw it before. Now, when I bought it, my parents did not know of my sudden fascination with animation, so when I asked them to buy them for me (I didn't have access to any online stores or any way to pay for stuff online at the time), they both thought i was a littel strange...hehe... :p (not that I'm not strange, of course...). Anywoof...again...I got them both and when I watched them, I was totally amazed at the story, the characters, the actors who played them, the music...all of it...especially the white wolf scene. It was then that I became a true Balto fan. Ironically, I now find that WQ is not a very good movie (at least, not as a sequal, but as a movie itself, i liked it a lot). After that, I proceeded to draw a lot of fan art...most of which I have not posted online. And, some of you may know about the story I am TRYING to write...it is now an original story....but it actually originally started out as a Balto fan fic....lol!

hehe...ok...that's enough...I was about to rant even more....lol...
I saw Balto years ago on TV and I like it. But I never bought the movie untill about 2 years ago when I saw it again on TV. Then a random google search, a few days after I saw it on TV, brought up a few balto pages. While reading them I got more interested in Balto and decided to join The Balto League then The Icy Boards a few months later.
I saw it in the Theater in 1995. The interesting thing a Year prior to that(Give or take a few months)I saw The Lion King wich I thought(And still think)is the Greatest movie I've ever seen. I thought to Myself "How long will I have to wait before I see anything that was anywhere near as good as that. Then when I saw "Balto" It struck the same emotional cord in Me that The Lion King did, and to this day "Balto" is the only movie I rank at the same level as The Lion King
Mine isn't a particularly glamorous tale, nor is it inspiring or compelling.  Mostly, it was dumb luck.  I just happened to pick up the movie one day, when I was looking for animated movies I haven't seen, and I rather liked it.
I got a fan back in 1997 where Balto finally were released on video in Denmark.

Pinned ya!
Well, I used to only watch Disney movies, and as a result, missed out on movies from many rival movie companies.  About 2 years ago, I started watching the animated movies that I missed.  I was shopping around and saw Balto on the shelf, and after reading the description of the film, I decided to buy it.  After watching it, I became a fan, and purchased WQ a while later.
Well...I count myself as a Balto Fan, but not an exspecially active one. I never wrote a fanfic, drew very little art about it, never watched it repedativly or anything. I wanted to see it in theatres but nobody would take me. It made me mad. I don't have any memory of the first time I watched it. I dug it out a few years ago and decided to watch it. I liked it alot. It was the only animated film besides All Dogs Go to Heaven and 101 dalmations that I knew of that featured canines as the main characters. I don't remember how I found the forum here, but I'm proud I did. I've met some wonderful friends here, even best friends. The people here caused me to come back often and I drifted away from a crowd that wasn't doing me much good.
I thank Balto for that.
I started to like it when it was released on Video in Germany. First I just watched it because I loved dogs, especially Huskies ^^.
I really don't know what made me a balto fan since I was 5 at the time but what i do know is when I saw it I was hooked! I know I sound crazy to non-disney fans (if there is any) but I guess Balto kinda reminded me of aladdin and jenna reminded me of jasmine and since I like aladdin maybe that's why or perhaps it's the storyline the backgrounds music or characters I really don't know all I know is I'm a fan *waves a balto flag*  :)
Well I got into it when I got into Wolves which started when I was 5, I always loved it and I'm getting all three movie for chirstmas
cool that's probally why I got into lion king but the opposite though  :)
mmm *thinks a bit* The first time I saw the movie It was in 1998 in television I remmeber that I loved the movie, but since I was very child it doesen't hit me too much... but I remmeber that I love it... For some reasons (I believe Family problems) I forgot all about it... December of 2003 when I saw it (God Bless for 12083108 time Cartoon Network) I became very addict xD to it (Also the fact that it was based on a true story makes it more interesting)... now I'm searching for the DVD... Well a couple of months ago I discover this community and well I joined and (as like Vesta said) I met really cool people thanks to balto =)
I got hooked into Balto, when I was young (like 10), when me, my brother and my dad rented it on video, because my brother (he was 14) said that this movie is cool, so i watched it with him and after i was hooked and amazed at it. After years, i forgot about Balto, then i watched it on Cartoon Network when they showed it, and i started thinking about the past, and thats when i got hooked to it and found this site.
In spring 1997 I saw this article http://www.balto.de/archive/album03/BravoBericht in a German music and teenage magazine, I liked how the dogs are drawed and I only thought I must see this movie
all of your guys' ideas are interesting mine is just stupied huh
I wouldn't say that KodiLover. Your reason is just as valid as the rest of Us, As far as I'm concerned
As with a lot of you guys..I remember seeing it on CN  sometime in late 1998, and was hooked ever since..though It took a few years before i could find A reasonable deal to buy it..I now have both DVD's and are looking in preordering B3's DVD...
@ simbasguard: thanks I appericate that

@ Lowes4803: ok but you do know about the dvd codes and all that right
I first saw the theater advertisements on TV, but no one could take me at the time.  I never forgot how cool the movie looked and I jumped at the chance to see it on the Disney Channel.  After one viewing (although I had missed some of the big WWS), I was instantly hooked.  During another showing on the Disney channel, I taped it and I've been a fan ever since. :D
Well, my story's a little weird; it comes in two parts. ^^

When it was in theaters in my area, I had no interest in canines, was "too old" for cartoons (aside from Chuck Jones stuff) and I wanted to see Toy Story(the main reason Balto never made it big was that movie being released at the same time) as it was the ground-breaking 3D computer animated movie.

A few years later, mom borrowed Balto from the library as an aid to a study we were doing on the true story of Balto for school. I liked it a little, didn't really care. Still had no interest in canines.

A few months before I joined this board, mom borred Balto again from the library for my second brother to view, for the same study my other brother and I did years ago. I was bored, so I watched it with them.

It all clicked for me. Remembering the true story, and now that I had in interest in canines, I had a motivation to find out if this movie was popular, as noone ever talked about it.

I just started taking the Internet seriously (I used to be a Yahoo! chat troll), so I punched "Balto" into Yahoo! and came upon TIC, and then TIB. Realizing how many mature people liked Balto, I decided to go ahead and pursue learning all I could about it. Ironically, TIB is what started my use of the Internet as not only a tool, but also as a community where I could meet real people. In fact, Silver Huskey's site and friendlyness is the way I fell into HTML, which led to Java, which led to perl, which led to PHP, which led to...

In short, Balto was a life-changer to me. That's... strange... o_O
\n\n

Well I remembered that Balto was a true story after I watched over 100 times and it clicked in my head! lol!  I should find out a little more about Balto, so I went to some good history websites and found out. Then I found all these sites and here I am! :D Weird how you just stumble onto sites you never have seen before, lol.
that's interesting firewolf
Hmm,Well I was like 7 or 8 and me and my brother were bored at my grandma's house. so,my brother was flipping the channels, and then I saw a husky. I got mad at him because he wouldn't change it back to the channel. So I went upstairs to my room (the room where I slept in whenI was at my grandam's house)and desperately flipped the channels trying to find the huskies again. Finally I found it,and once I saw Balto,I instantly fell in love with him. I watched it the 1st time on Cartoon Network Theater. I had already loved dogs so I guess the movie had an impact on me. Then knowing my grandma, she bought me the VHS for Christmas. I was the happiest 7 year old girl ever! And well...here I am today... my love for Balto will never die!
You know, I never knew how I got Balto on VHS? I got the movie somehow? But I don't know! *thinks*  Chrismas or Birthday I don't know which. lol!
I saw it on TV last christmas and i was enthusiastic about this movie so that i decided to buy Balto and Balto 2 - Wolfs Quest some days later.
Both films were wonderful and for that time i'm a great Balto-Fan  :D

Balto-the-wolf
I watched Balto for the first time in 1996, my grandma bought the VHS and I loved it immediately. But in 1998 i stopped to watch it, I don't know why. On may 2003 I started to watch Balto again for a bet (the colour of Jenna's bandana) and I looked for more informations in internet. When I found TIB 6 months ago I was completely a Balto fan. Now I watch the film twice a week.
This is exactly the subject of the current poll on my site, so the current results may be interesting for this topic :

So it seems the majority has seen it on TV for the first time. I'm among these people  :p
:) I'm the one ,who see Balto on TV first!I like line ,color, story, movement and music!!Everything!!It raise my spirit to reach for the light(my dream and my future)
Well, I would see bits and pieces of the movies on TV when I was younger. It was mostly last year, when I saw it on Cartoon Network, but I wasn't able to watch it. So, I rented it, and watched it about five times over before returning it. :D I loved it. I bought it off Ebay not too long after, that's when I started getting more into wolves/dogs...and, here I am. ^_^
One small screenshot of balto and the dogs in the ice cave was enough for me.. and I saw that back in Jan  1994 issue of Sci Fi magazine and that was it I instantly feel in love with the movie.. And it was a small screen shot and it said Amblin entertainment and Stephen Spielberg are to release Balto as early as Winter of 95' then the trailers came around.. Oh how they teased me!! It was a miserable experience for me.. then December 25th came around.. Oh yeah I was there the line for toy story was much bigger .. hehe feh I didnt care! even tho i do like toy story but that wasnt the case at the time .I couldnt pass the movie i had been wanting to see for about 2 years and Full screen balto GOODNESS! I loved every frame of that movie i remember i watched it 3 times that same day LOL didnt know if that was allowed but didnt care :)  ll i have to say that was one of the best nights i ever had.. hehe somtimes later tho i must have wore the #### out of that video too LOL  anywho i loved that movie then and i still love it now :)
I remember when it was out in theatres but I never got to see it because I lived in a small town then and they for some reason the theatre we had never got Balto, but when the movie came out a few months later, I ran out to rent it and I loved it immidiatley. In fact Balto started my love for wolves which is now my favorite animal to this day. And when Balto came to DVD I did not hesitate to buy it.
I've always LOVED wolves- even when I was little I was a doggy-freak, and then on my first trip to the school library (about five years old or so) I saw this book with a picture of a wolf on it and the eyes just captured me. It was like BOOM- I was a wolf fan.

Then Balto came out and well, gosh, there aren't that many animated films about wolves, so I was really excited. I actually didn't see it until the video came out.

I can remember all my friends and I playing 'Balto' atrecess. I was always Balto, I had one friend who was Steele, another was Jenna, and then others kind of made up their own characters.

Anyway, than I read a book on the true story and thought that was pretty cool, too, although a lot of my friends didn't like to find out that there was no 'real Jenna' or 'real Steel.'

So, yeah, that's how I got to be a Balto fan- and I've been one ever since!
I don't know the answer to this question.  But, when I was 5-6 years old, we got the movie, Balto and I watched it and got hooked.  Just like that.  After a while, I started to howl like the white wolf.  Don't know why really.  I guess after my two concussions, it really got on my crazy mind.  In 4th grade, I discovered a book about the real Balto.  It was interesting.  It was called, Balto, Sled Dog of Alaska, I think.  I'm going back to Elementary School and ask if they have the book yet.  If they do, I'm going to ask if I can have it for keeps because when I was there, no one would check it out.  I was the only one in the matter of 9-10 years or more than that.  I hope I get that book! It's 100% worth it.  My Balto future collection will include 3 DVDs of the 3 movies, that book, and drawings.  That's it.  I hope I get that book.  Wish me luck!  :)
The animation. I love the animation.

Good Luck :D  I have My Claws crossed for You
I became a fan when I first saw Balto in the movies. I instantly fell in love with Balto <3
It all started with the first movie. From then on i guess i just waited for sequels to come out. As soon as i saw the first balto, i immediately fell in love with the him. Now i patiently wait for the next one.

Wolfen~ sits down and wags his tail.
I watched the first Balto when I was like 7 years old. I remember it was one of my favorite movies and I always wanted to rent it.  I saw it for rent this week and it braugh back my memories
I was an aborable kiddie that was shopping with meh momma when I saw a doggie movie on the shelf (Balto) and my mom bought it for me. Nyah. :P

And since then I've been a loyal Balto fan. Even my animated-movie-hating cousin likes to watch Balto with me. XD

My VHS is wearing out. Luckily, I got the DVD for X-mas. *grins*
the movie made me a Balto fan, when I first saw back in 1996, it was super cool, I loved it and I've been a fan for so long.
Huh, might as well add my tale:
I saw it in theatres, but due my accursed bad memory, all I remember about that day was that it was snowing hard, and a plastic kiddie pool rolled in front of our car.

After that, I wasn't much interested in it until I saw it on Disney Channel (or was it Toon Disney?) in 2002. And with that, the obsession began! :D

I wanted to get a copy; but they were out of print. Thankfully, my friend IrishVampyr gave me her copy. (Of course soon after that the tape was re-realsed with Wolf Quest- figures).

I went online, typed in 'Balto', and found Balto's Boat. There I found out about the true story, read fanfiction, and fed my growing interest.

Balto inspired me to write my first fanfic (my first finished writing PERIOD). Although embrassing now, with each Balto fic I've improved.

Plus, like others, Balto interested me into the internet world.

I guess owe a lot to that cartoon.

Live long and prosper.

I'm not really a 100% fan of Balto but i liked the story, i learnd a lot of thing of that movie like don't hate people for what they are. But the problem is i never saw the second and the third movie. I'll maybe rent it someday or buy it (that's even beter):) .But before i knew this website i forgot about it untill reasently i found this website, i tought why not be a member here:D and it's good to meet new people:D .
At the very least "Balto 2 and 3" Are worth a rental :D
I watched Balto when I was five and then when I got a little older and it was 2002 I saw the trailer for Balto 2 Wolf Quest and I saw it and it all came back to me that I used to watch Balto and then I told my mom that I wanted to go to the store and buy Balto 2 so I went there and saw it on the shelf and quickly grabbed it and ran to the till and watched it and kinda worked my way up from there. I bought the VHS for Balto at the price of $30 and I bought the Balto plush and joined all the chat forums and learned more about the characters and the first site I visited was The Ice Cave and I went there all the time until I saw more sites and then now I'm here and buying more stuff of Balto because I still don't have it all but I bet I won't have it all in a life time but who says you can't try. The only thing I really want to get is the Jenna stuffy and I will stop buying for awhile but that's my story...

Wow, that's pretty expensive! Do you have the DVD?

Wolfen~ is hungry.
Amazon is cool... it's where I got my SSOTC books and my Balto DVD*... :3

*This I know cause I looked at my Christmas presents when I was alone in the house. :D
I caught the movie on Disney ten years ago, enjoyed what I saw and the rest is history.
Saw it in school last week and had to do something realated to Balto for a class project so I was gunna draw Balto. So I did and while I was searching google for a pic I found this website. I thought the movie was cool and I love wolves, wish i was one. Plus Balto is cool to draw.
Well i have seen Balto by a pure luck.
On the 25-12-2004(Chrismas) i seen it on PROtv in the morning. And i loved it ever since, the next day when Christmas was over i bought Balto, and Balto II and now i am waiting patiently for Balto III (it appears in Roumania in march).
I remember that one day I was at my local video store in the kids section (because I was bored l.o.l) and I saw the video cover of "Balto" and I saw that it had wolves on it, and seeing as wolves are one of my favorite animals, I picked it up and borrowed it and the first time that I watched it, I just absoloutley LOVED it!
I saw the first Balto movie when I was 15/16 and ever since I loved Balto! I like Balto because it is sort of based on a real event and I love the music, it's great!
