The end scene...

There is this one thing about the ending scene of Balto that really bugs me. You know how when Balto gets back from his journey, and he gives Rosie the hat, and then Jenna coughs and Balto and her go and prance around each other all extaticaly? Well, after they touch noses, it looks like they are just about to go full-frontal smack on the lips, but instead, Jenna just nuzzles Balto? isn't it just so strange how amazingly it looks like Balto and Jenna are going to french kiss? I think the animators did that on purpose. But the thing that bugs me is...THEY DON'T! Those dogs should have made out! Who cares if it is a childern's movie, it wouldn't have been that bad to just show them french kissing. Sure, some kids might have gone "eww! or "yuck!" but they probably wouldn't mind, as Balto is just such a fabulous movie. I admit, it would've been pretty funny to see cartoon dogs making out, but I just think that scene should be be cut. It's just so unatural for two lovers who have't seen each other for such a long time to not show very much affection towards each other.  ???
The way dogs show affection is just how they did it in the movie...  :p
Hehe... you're missing something very important in that scene, jewelswulfe... something that would change your opinion of it. Watch Jenna right after they stop nuzzling. Watch her eyes, specifically. There's a reason why Balto makes such a goofy smile there.

I do think that the nuzzle they did was a very tender and loving gesture. It's like a long hug, you know?

Well they were in front of a crowd. They couldn't screw in front of the public! lol.
Yeah dogs don't kiss, ever. The closest they get to is a submissive display of licking anothers muzzle, or in puppies where it is a sign they want food. If Balto and Jenna had kissed like you said, it would have ruined a rare and realistic animated movie for me.

but we know that nuzzle lead onto other tings anyway.. I mean suddenly there were puppies in Wolf Quest and we were told that it does start off exactly where the other finished.
lol :D my dogs do more than just nuzzle :p  :D if u know what i mean :D

lMine are exactly the same way dude, except it is beginning to be a slight bit of trouble! but that's a different story..lol..No really I'm serious!
Hehe..
Well. I only have one dog.. But he sure wants to be petted all the time. Why do big dogs allways thinks they are lapdogs?!  :p

Yeah, I said it would have been funny if they acurally kissed, but I meant more like...making out in a doggie way...Licking, more cuddling, etc... That would have been more like it.

I know Ag, Jenna looks towards her stomach, and Balto gets that goofy smile because Jenna is indicating that she is pregnant, with his pups!
That's one way of looking at it. The other way is that Jenna looks towards her hindquarters to indicate that she'd like to be pregnant, and Balto gets that grin because he's like "Dude, SCORE!"

This second interpretation also means that the "two lovers who haven't seen each other for a long time" do show plenty of affection towards each other... they just wait for a more private moment.

I just thought the same thing last night AG.. it's interesting that anyone would notice that.. on contrere, I know their was probaily no pun intended, even more likely that it was a joke just to make the end more interesting...XD..LOL....so whats the likelyhood of that having anything to do with the sequel anyways?? I know this is a stupid question, but I'm just curious about that...XP...
The creators of the sequel could make anything in the original relate to it, but I don't think the original Balto creators intended a sequel to relate...
Oh I see what yer saying now... Lol I should of knew that by now..silly me....
I don't think it had anything at all to do with a sequel, but I'm sure that the original animators stuck it in there on purpose and it means what we think it means. One of the appealing things about Balto is that, while it is a family movie, it isn't just a family movie; there are plenty of little bits in there that are obviously intended for an older audience, some more obvious that others. Little kids watching the ending scene won't see anything out of the ordinary, because it'll just go right over their heads, but I'd say that the majority of older viewers see what's going on the first time they watch it. It adds another level to the movie that way, as well as to the characters.
Yes Ag, you are right. I never thought of it that way. I guess it could mean that too!
If Balto and Jenna had kissed, it would have been just as annoying as Charlie/Sasha thing in All Dogs go to Heaven 2.  Like it was stated before, i'm glad they didn't. :p
They could have done MUCH "worse" Things  :p
I think Silver means it would be silly rather than gross etc. I agree, I like to see it with realism. I enjoyed ADGTH2 until that moment when they kissed. Dogs dont kiss, it was dumb but then at the same time, dogs dont sing, dance or ride mopeds so *shrugs* it would have ruined Balto though.\n\n

I agree with Silver and Fluke.. kissing dogs would have been ridiculous rather than sweet or a nice ending to the movie. The way it was done was perfect...you could feel the emotion in that long nuzzle, they didn't need more. And their expressions spoke volumes.. all you had to do was read between the lines. :D

Actually AC and Vesta stated exactly what I meant.  But, if that had done worse, that would have just been cheap and tacky.  Sort of like an excellent movie ending with a plotline similar to a porno flick. O_o;

*Shudders.*
Are you INSANE..? Dogs french kissing..? I mean, they were showing immense affection for each other. For dogs, I mean. Yes, humans might french kiss but I don't think it would have any place in Balto, unless it wasn't a kid's film (I am 11 and this kind of talk is kind of offending...I mean in the way that 'who cares it's a kid's movie, kids wouldn't mind that they kissed!' Well, I would have, and I'm sure a lot of other loyal Balto fans would have too - as I have said before, it has NO place in a movie with such a good message as Balto.
You can't really say about Balto, when it comes down to a kissing part. If they weren't interrupted down in the cellar, they probably would've kissed, or it looked like it anyway.
I am sorry that I have offeneded you IcyAlue. I did not mean to. I think I was just being really childish and stupid back when I made this topic. I just thought of it as a kind of a joke. I really must not have been thinking. O.o

I'm really sorry!! Don't be mad at me. :(
Like I said before, if Balto had kissed Jenna it would have ruined the movie for me. Those who know me know that I am not a furry or anything like that. I don't like anthro stuff (human qualities in animals) which is why I like Balto, though a little anthropomorphic simply because these are talking animals, it is subtle and kept to a realistic level when compared to other movies. Dogs don't kiss, that is a Western Human culture. If they hadn't been disturbed in the basement, they would have done what they did in the middle and end of the movie. That is simply nuzzle each other which is what a bonded pair of canines do. The closest to "french kissing" you would get is when one is licking a more dominant one's muzzle which is submissive behaviour and occassionally they may lick inside the muzzle. This is not affection to each other, this is "I'm smaller than you please don't hurt me" or if it is a puppy it means "Feed me". Simple, you wouldn't want to see Balto stick his tongue in Jenna's mouth and then see her vomit up her dinner for him to eat now would you?

LOL! No, I definatley wouldn't want to see that.

Your right, that's all cannines really do.
I've never seen a dog ever kiss.

My dog has been treated so she can't have puppies, lucky thing really, because she's a sexy dog, all the boy dogs want her, especially her boyfriend across the road from us  :;):
iam learning so much between the lines things from this forum
I wouldn't have mind if they have kissed; it's probably better this way, but after all, dogs who can talk, smile, cry...and in all the other dogs animated movies, the dogs kissed. At least, it's more original...
the goofy grin Balto made was pretty funny
I was always thinking there was something more adult oriented in the scene (from jenna's look to Balto's goofy grin) But it always ran in my head that they wouldn't put something hinted to mating in a G-rated movie like that. The more i watched it, the more apparent it became though lol. Anyway, it's nice to see thatthe adults have some additional material thrown their way that the kids don't get......until later lol...
Even a G-rated film has those scenes. :)

Don't forget Boris's little comment when Jenna is lying on top of Balto; sorry if it's not word for word

"I see something too and it's making the ice melt."

Gee, I wonder what he ment there.
i was thinking that that line was more referring to the fact that Balto and Jenna were becoming a little bit less shy around each other, nothing more mature than that ^_^.
well it was the way he said it that made it sound riskay
