When I've ever watched the film. I've always noticed the smaller size Balto is in comparison to the huskies. Like when he takes the front reins from Star he looks pretty small against him, and Star is a small dog! Unless it was just camera angles. And generally when he is against the other dogs he looks rather small.
I thought one answer might be the fact he is half and half and that somehow weakened/affected his growth or something, but I'm not sure. Anyone else got any input or theories?

Another thing to consider is that Balto might not have been very well fed. Even good hunters sometimes go hungry

Yeah that could be one cause another would be that maybe his father was a small husky.83-106196071620 Oct 2004, 05:23 UTC
I'd say he wasn't smaller in every sense of the word. He was definitely taller than most of the other huskies. He just wasn't as filled out as they were.

Thats a good point! But every thing about Balto fits him just right!

I think it could have been he was under fed, but my dog Bandit was a hybrid and he was HUGE, even though he was abused and underfed before we had him. I think his father was a small husky, but nutrition is a key.
