Now, I have a few questions for you all. Would you like to run with Balto and Jenna? Or maybe start your very own wolf-pack and howl with your brethern at a frosty Alaskan moon? Well, then have I got news for you! It's Crossroads MUCK, a center for interactive role-play. The letters in 'MUCK' stand for Multi-User-Chat-Kingdom, and MUCKs differ from forums in a very special way ... Replies from your friends are instantaneous! You don't have to wait days, hours, or even minutes to hear what your friends have to say! And you get to create your own original characters, write their descriptions and histories, and literally traverse the vast forests and enjoy the chaos of Nome with all that you meet!
So, right now you must be asking yourself, 'How do /I/ get in on this excitement?' It's very simple! Just go to http://www.gammon.com.au/downloads/dlmushclient.htm and download your own MUSHClient software. It's very easy to operate, and I promise it won't take up much room at all on your computer! The MUSHClient will allow you to connect to any MUCK you like - and there are a LOT out there!
Now then, click on the icon as it appears on your desktop and go through the set up process. Soon, you'll be ready to start your adventures! :cheesy: Now then, once you're in the program, go to FILE -- New World. A screen will pop up with fields where, to connect to Crossroads, you should type the following information:
Name: Crossroads
TCP/IP Address: crossroads.digitalgenesis.ca
Port Number: 9999
Then click okay, and you'll be at the Crossroads Welcome Screen! It's as simple as that! Now then, simply type into the text box at the bottom 'connect guest guest' and press enter, and you will sign onto the MUCK as a guest character, since you won't yet have one of your own. Here are a few helpful commads you can use once you're there: (type each of these, without including the '' marks, in the text box and then press enter! :cheesy:)
'find' -- this will give you a listing of all the other people who are also connected to the MUCK right at that moment! It will show you the names, genders, species, and locations of their characters. Is that cool or what?
Now, don't get discouraged if there aren't a ton of people on. Crossroads is mostly active in the evenings, EST. Also, keep in mind that the Alaskan area is of course the Balto area. There are a few separate areas, or 'realms' on Crossroads where different kinds of roleplay is offered. For example, on Crossroads, there are realms based on The Lion King, the Outback (Australia), and the American Rocky Mountains, all with their own different animals and nature of roleplay to offer.
'wizzes' -- this command will give you a listing of all the wizards (people who run the MUCK) currently connected. These are the folks you page in case you need help! ![]()
Here's how to page another person:
'page <name>=I have some questions!'
Of course, omit the '' and the <> marks. ![]()
'@request' -- Type this when you're ready to request a character of your very own. Make sure you answer every question!
And finally, how to move around! In a MUCK there are many different rooms. Whatever room a character is in is called their 'location', and is displayed in the list that comes up when one types 'find'. To move from one room to the other, take a look at what appears under 'Exits:' .. The letters in the [] marks are the ones you can type to move to another room. For example, say you were in a room that said:
Exits:
[OOC] [C]omplex
[O]ut
You could type OOCC to go to the Complex, OR you could type O. These exits lead to different rooms. If you get lost, you can always type 'home' to go back to the room you started in.
 Happy trails!
I know it may sound a bit difficult, but it is VERY worth it, I assure you. You'll get hours of creative and thoughtful roleplay with some very talented people, and you'll pick up things more quickly than you think!
Now, I've got to get going, but if you have any problems logging in, please don't hesitate to email me at [email protected]. Thanks! Hope to see you around!
P.S.- I do apologize most sincerely if this advertisement is unwelcome on this board. I just wanted to offer people who love the movie as much as I do the same kind of creative outlet that I have enjoyed. I didn't mean to offend or annoy anyone, so again, my apologies!
        See you at the Crossroads!
