Out of curiosity, is this a sequel to another story? If it is which story would that be? I don't want to read this one without reading the whole series.

Well I already finished both of them(I have too much time on my hands 
). Overall they were very good. Sometimes it wasn't as detailed as it could have been(can't think of a specific example off the top of my head).
